3D Modelling and Simulation

Array offers advanced 3D laser scanning and graphics modelling services for a variety of applications. Our modelling process has the potential for wide application in commercial and industrial sectors including computer animation, special effects, forensic sciences, virtual reality systems, human systems engineering, transportation infrastructure, automated inspection and machine vision. Array's advanced 3D modelling process generates precise 3D computer reproductions of real objects, people, and environments.

Array uses a number of sophisticated software packages including Polyworks, Rhino and Cyclone and can deliver models in a variety of 3D graphics formats including STL, OBJ, POL, DXF, STP, IGS, and FLT.

In 2004, Array completed a multi-year project to provide 3D laser scanning and modelling services to support the ongoing research activities of the Human Modelling Group at DRDC-Toronto. During this project, Array supplied data acquisition and modelling work leading to accurate 3D models of objects, such as the inside and outside of aircraft, land vehicles, ships and buildings.

In 2005, Array was awarded four more contracts from DRDC-Toronto in support of the the Advanced Deployable Day/Night Simulation (ADDNS) Technology Demonstration Project (TDP). The ADDNS project, led by DRDC's Toronto research centre, will enhance Canadian Forces operational readiness by advancing the visual simulation capabilities of training simulators for deployment in mission rehearsal. These contracts are designed to expand on previous DRDC efforts and experiments related to visibility, object discrimination, object identification and the image quality of displays. New efforts will include the manipulation of geographic databases and real-time scene generation including customized software development.

In March 2007, Array was awarded another contract from DRDC-Toronto for Technical Investigative Engineering Support (TIES) for research software development involving electro-optics. Array will be providing software support to the ADDNS TDP for a number of experimental activities, in addition to mathematical consulting support in geometry, statistics and combinatorics. Array will also be providing similar support to the Soldier Integrated Helmet System (SIHS) Vision Sub-System Team (within SIHS-TDP) as well as human factors engineering support for electrooptic devices.
