SAPPS - Sonar Acoustic Post Processing System

Swedish Gotland Submarine Swedish Gotland Submarine

Array developed the Sonar Acoustic Post Processing System (SAPPS) for the Swedish Defence Material Administration (FMV) on behalf of the Royal Swedish Navy (RSwN) for use at the Naval Underwater Sensors Analysis Centre (MUSAC). The official handover ceremony took place in March 2007. Click here to read the Press Release.

The SAPPS is the Swedish implementation of Array's ScalableGSP architecture. The system is used by the MUSAC to analyse acoustic and electromagnetic signatures of seagoing vessels of interest to the RSwN.

The SAPPS is a general-purpose system that can process all types of sonar data from a variety of sources. It operates Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) processing hardware attached to PC-based Operator Workstations (OWs), and interfaces with the MUSAC government-furnished LAN. The SAPPS makes full use of the networked direct access storage and processing capability available within the MUSAC.

The SAPPS handles data processing and data transformation from various sonar, electric and magnetic sensor systems and produces data in a generic data format which is stored in the MUSAC databases. This generic data format allows the data to be read by commercial programs, enabling the creation of reports and the preparation of training materials. The SAPPS also supports the transfer of images, audio data and measurements.

Array recently received an upgrade contract from FMV to perform software and hardware upgrades to the SAPPS to improve the system's performance and add new features. Click here to read the Press Release.

Soon after signing that contract, Array was awarded another contract from FMV to incorporate the SAPPS into their Naval Training School. Click here to read the Press Release.
